About Cafe Fables

What this site is

Cafe Fables is an independent, ad-free editorial website about the history, people and recipes of Vietnamese coffee. We tell the human stories behind the phin filter — from wartime rationing kitchens in Hà Nội to the Vietnamese-owned roasters now operating across the United States — and we share traditional recipes written for home kitchens.

What this site is not

We are not a coffee company, retailer or affiliate marketer. We don't sell beans, filters or equipment, and we don't take sponsored placements. We make no claims that our recipes produce specific results, and we make no health, performance or commercial guarantees of any kind.

How we handle history

Our stories are grounded in documented events: the 1946 invention of egg coffee in wartime Hà Nội, the coffeehouses of Sài Gòn, the Đổi Mới reforms, and Vietnam's rise to the world's second-largest coffee producer. Individual characters, dialogue and scenes in our narratives are fictionalised to honour the memory of those times, and are labelled as such in our terms of use.
